A Store :: A Ted Date

The rumors are true... My boys have a store!
I'm just about the proudest wife & sister that there is.
Husband & brother have been working ever so diligently for the last years, overcoming obstacles & building their business. End of Nov., after much MUCH searching, they finally found their spot, signed the paperwork & got the keys to their store front!! No more on-line sales! Woot!!
While the location is top choice, IT. WAS. DISGUSTING. An old A really old salon that seemed to not have been occupied since the early '90's.

One of the most gracious gifts that could have possibly been bestowed upon us, was the presence of my father-in-love- mister Lindsay Tanner. He came out for a whole week & helped the boys champ the heck out of the re-model.
Now, finishing touches are being put in place & all is about ready for the mid Jan. opening.
All I can say is THANK YOU!!!!!!! We are truly, nothing short of beyond blessed & I can not express what a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.
I am grateful.

On another recent day, I got to have a mini date with Ted while Sis was in school.

Food

What's not to love about it? It can be life giving, absolutely gorgeous, outstandingly delicious & fun to photograph.

"The food you eat can either be the safest & most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison."    - Anne Wigmore

We love the stuff. & choose the first.
Persimmons, raspberries & raw milk. YUUUUMMMM!

How to Re-vamp Something Old & Ugly

If you know me, you know that I have re-finished or DIY'd almost every piece of furniture in my home. Quite a few people have come to me looking for direction on how they can do teh same. So, a blog post was in order. Here is the last piece I did & step by step instructions... Kind of.

First find an old ugly piece of furniture. I pulled mine out of my Aunt Penny's garage. It had been sitting there for 13 years. I saved it's life. Any yard sale or thrift store will do.
Normally I suggest taking off the doors, hinges, hardware, etc & painting each piece separately. This one had 95 tiny screws in each hinge so that did't happen. I did however take off the front handles. They were easy. Be sure it is on top of a piece of cardboard or paint sheet, unless you like to paint grass as well.
I don't sand. I spray with a primer.

Choose your color. I like this brand in particular because it is really easy to spray, always comes out super even & requires less coats since it's the "2x coverage". I use this same brand of primer. Don't worry about a glossy finish on your favorite color since you will be applying a clear top coat when done.
1 can of primer
For this size I needed 3 cans of color
1 can of top coat, I prefer satin or matte.
For the "antique" finish, I  just buy a bottle of the 97 cent acrylic paint from walmart. Either black or dark brown. I did a mix this time cause I had about 1/4 of a bottle of each left over.

Spray the piece with the primer, use the whole can. It will not be even at all, but I find that it's enough to bond the piece with the paint really well. Follow the directions on timing & when appropriate, apply the color in MANY, THIN coats. Trust me please. Thinking you will get it done quicker with thicker coats is not going to work. It will be a drippy hunk o' junk by days end.
If I start at one end, by the time I've covered the whole thing w a coat, the first part I sprayed is ready for it's second, third & so on... Finish with a few coats of clear & let it rest.

The next day, be sure your working space is REALLY small & gather your small bottles of paint, two bowls, one with water, a plastic or unloved utensil & one of your husbands shirts, cut up into rags.
Mix your paint with some water until it is pretty runny but still opaque.

Dip a rag in the paint mix, slather it all over one section, not the whole thing, making sure to get deep into cracks & crevices. Let it sit for about 30-60 seconds then wipe off with a dry rag. If you find it is sticking too much or you have some runs, dip rag in your clean water & wipe.

After covering the whole thing, be sure that you were really rough with that poor rag & check for any really large & confusing holes. Also check to see that your hands are covered in paint, accentuating each wrinkle, making you realize just how wrinkly your hands are. OR, wear gloves & don't be a vigorous beast wile applying the antique finish.

Place your master piece, enjoy its beauty & be proud.

A Rainbow :: Polly in a Hoodie :: Teddy is Santa ::

There was a rainbow in the sky.
Polly is adorable when taking her pup out first thing in the morning.
Teddy is too when eating bean & cheese burritos & being caught posing by the tree just like his singing santa that he loves & I don't  when no one is a watchin'.

The Dukes & Some Food!

When we are lucky, said rad family takes vacations to California. Even though this one was a short lil visit, it was a good one none the less. We got to meet them for dinner at Ruby's. What can be better than good food with great company? Not a whole lot, I tell ya...

We Are Thankful

We are blessed with much. It is truly incredible.

There is one situation in particular, I need to express my gratitude for.
We have a small home, that is shared with my brother & his sweet wife. There are always messes, dishes in the sink, toys all over the floor. Always. While it can be  easy to think "I wish I was back in my very own home, I wish this place didn't always feel so crowded and crazy."& while others find it so easy to assume it's a "hard situation" all of those things that couldn't be further from the truth. My life, my heart & my home are so full of love & gratitude it could burst.
One day my kids will be all grown up & will look back on this time in their lives. I want them to remember it being a happy experience, not a rough one. I want them to say "Member when we all lived together with uncle Doug & ant Krystal? That was so fun!"
We all have each other, to lean on, laugh at & make memories with.
We all sleep safely & soundly in our own beds. We all wake each morning to a warm breakfast & end each eve with a delicious supper. We are all healthy & strong. Physically, mentally & spiritually. While I wont pretend like it doesn't have it's challenges, it works for us & I wouldn't change a thing.
So, thank you. No, really... Thank you.

On that note, here is our thanksgiving.
We went to ant Kerry's same as every year. Brian smoked the turkey same as every year. We used great great great great great great ... Grandmas china same as every year. The kids ran & slid, up & down the hallway just like we did as wee ones. The pups played. We stood in our circle, held hands & talked about what we are thankful for same as every year.  We lit a candle for ant T & all of the others who couldn't be with us that one's semi new. We at delush food same as every year. Everyone was happy.

Bruffus @ Kettle

It's a coffee shop I love.

Tickle Protectors :: Grilled Cheese :: Dance

If you put 9,000 pairs of your fathers socks on at the same time, they serve as "tickle protectors". K & I learned this early one morning as P hopped into bed with us, fully prepared to come up against the wrath of the "tickle monster" whom is Klint.
With a swim mask on, is the only way to play with trains. Duh.
Smoked gouda & blueberry grilled cheese on sourdough, plus hot choc is da bomb.
P started a new ballet/tap class. They are practicing for their Christmas show & I laugh while watching from the corner. Not cause it's funny these littles are seriously good, but because it makes me that happy.
Brother enjoys being in the audience as well. He knows all the moves... pretends like he doesn't

We go to Ramona for craft fair / crepe lunch dates w Ant Penny & Linda.
